| Obverse description | Intaglio-printed portrait of William H. Crawford in an octagonal vignette to the left, with finely engraved guilloche borders and denomination numerals at the corners. A large oval pink underprint carries the "50" denomination twice flanking a central seal impression, with "FIFTY CENTS" arching above in bold blackletter script and "Fractional Currency" below. "SERIES OF 1875" is inscribed at centre, with two facsimile signatures of the Registrar and Treasurer appearing along the lower margin. |

| Reverse description | Entirely engraved in green, the reverse is centred on a large ornate guilloche medallion enclosing the bold numeral "50", surrounded by intricate lathe-work of scalloped and foliate patterns. "UNITED STATES" appears across the top with "50" flanking on each side, and "FIFTY CENTS" in large letters along the lower edge. Legal tender text is arranged vertically on the right panel, with authorising act dates reading "Act of March 3rd 1863" and "Act of June 30th 1864" at lower centre, and the imprint "JOS. R. CARPENTER - PHILADELPHIA" at the very base. |
