This piece commemorates the 1897 Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria — an event that generated one of the most celebrated stamps in Canadian postal history, the half-dollar-rate issue featuring a black-and-lavender vignette that collectors have chased for over a century. The RCM has periodically reproduced historic stamps in coin form, embedding facsimile imagery directly into the strike, a format that appeals far more to thematic collectors than to numismatists proper.
