Part of Perth Mint's ongoing Australian Wildlife series, this issue draws on the goldeneye duck — a species not native to Australia, which is an odd choice for a program ostensibly celebrating Australian fauna. The goldeneye is a Holarctic bird, breeding across northern Europe, Asia, and North America.
Struck in .9999 fine silver at 15.553 g, these half-ounce bullion-adjacent pieces are legal tender at face value but exist entirely outside circulation. The 50-cent denomination is nominal — a formality required for legal tender status under Australian law.
