Reverse description The reverse displays the Royal Coat of Arms of Canada as proclaimed by King George V on November 21, 1921 and updated in 1994, rendered in full heraldic detail at the center of the coin. The shield is supported by the lion rampant and the unicorn, with the royal motto 'DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM' appearing on a ribbon below. The national motto 'A MARI USQUE AD MARE' is also inscribed within the design. The denomination '50 CENTS' and the jubilee date range '1952-2002' complete the reverse legend, commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne.

Additional information

Issued to mark Elizabeth II's fifty years on the throne, this piece is one of several Canadian commemoratives produced for the 2002 Golden Jubilee — a year in which the Royal Canadian Mint released an unusually large volume of silver collector issues across multiple denominations and themes. The Jubilee itself was celebrated under a shadow; Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother had died in March of that year, just weeks before the main commemorative programming began.
