Obverse description The obverse features the uncrowned right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Susanna Blunt, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The Queen is depicted with softly waved hair pinned at the nape, wearing a pearl necklace, with fine detail in the facial features befitting the proof finish. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper left rim, while D·G·REGINA curves along the upper right, both in serif capitals. The designer's initials SB appear discreetly at the base of the effigy. The overall composition is elegant and restrained, characteristic of Blunt's official Canadian portrait introduced in 2003.

Reverse description The reverse presents a highly detailed, naturalistic portrait of a bald eagle's head in three-quarter view, occupying the majority of the coin's field, rendered with exceptional feather-by-feather engraving detail that showcases the proof striking to full effect. The eagle gazes to the left with a piercing eye and open, hooked beak, conveying power and vitality. The country name CANADA arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination 50 CENTS is inscribed in a straight line along the lower rim. The artist's initials TT and the date 2013 appear in the lower left and lower right fields respectively, flanking the eagle's plumage.
