The Platinum Jubilee issue marks Elizabeth II's 70th year on the throne — the first British monarch to reach that milestone. She died in September 2022, roughly four months after the jubilee celebrations, making this among the last Australian commemoratives struck in her honor during her lifetime. The Royal Australian Mint released it as part of a broader jubilee program coordinated across Commonwealth mints, though the Australian release carried its own distinct sixth-portrait effigy by Savannah Bird, approved only in 2019.
