Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse bears the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing draped bust adorned with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The portrait is rendered in fine relief with carefully detailed hair and facial features characteristic of Rank-Broadley's mature style. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs across the upper left field, with AUSTRALIA and the date 2012 continuing around the right side. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the truncation of the bust. The smooth dodecagonal fields frame the portrait with a polished, brilliantly struck finish.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays the Australian Coat of Arms in vivid applied colour, centrally positioned within the dodecagonal field. A kangaroo stands as the dexter supporter and an emu as the sinister supporter, both rendered in naturalistic polychrome colouring — the kangaroo in gold tones and the emu in blue-grey hues. The shield at centre depicts the six state emblems of the Australian Commonwealth in full heraldic colour, surmounted by the seven-pointed gold Commonwealth Star. Decorative wattle sprays frame the composition in the field, and the denomination numeral 50 is prominently inscribed in bold purple-coloured lettering in the lower field.
