Aanvullende informatie

Australia's involvement in the Boer War (1899–1902) marked the first time the country fought as a federated nation — the Commonwealth of Australia came into existence in January 1901 while troops were already in the field in South Africa. Approximately 16,000 Australians served, with around 600 killed, the majority by disease rather than combat. The conflict is also remembered for the court-martial and execution of Lieutenant Harry "Breaker" Morant, whose case remains contested in Australian military history.

The pad-printed colour application on this coin is applied post-striking at the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra, part of a production technique the RAM began deploying more extensively on commemorative 50-cent pieces in the 2000s.
