| Description de l’avers | Right-facing crowned and draped bust of King Edward VII occupies the central field, rendered in high relief after the design by George William de Saulles. The King wears the Imperial State Crown and robes of state, with fine detail in the chasing of the regalia. The encircling legend reads EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR in raised Latin lettering, evenly distributed around the periphery. The field is smooth and lightly concave, typical of Royal Mint striking of the Edwardian period. |

The legend CEYLON arcs across the upper field in Latin script, while the denomination is additionally rendered in Sinhala script (ශත පණහ) and Tamil script (ஐம்பது சதம்) flanking the central device, reflecting the multilingual character of the colony. The overall design is contained within a beaded inner border. |
