Reverse description The central device features a stylised palmyra or talipot palm, a traditional symbol of Ceylon, rendered in fine detail with fronds radiating outward and flanked by decorative scrollwork. The denomination 50 CENTS appears in large numerals and lettering across the lower central field, with the date below. The legend CEYLON arcs across the upper field in Latin script, while the denomination is additionally rendered in Sinhala script (ශත පණහ) and Tamil script (ஐம்பது சதம்) flanking the central device, reflecting the multilingual character of the colony. The overall design is contained within a beaded inner border.
