Churchill's connection to the Solomon Islands is direct and bloody: the waters around Guadalcanal witnessed some of the most ferocious naval combat of the Pacific War, and it was Churchill who, alongside Roosevelt, sanctioned Operation Watchtower in 1942 — the Allied offensive that made the Solomons a turning point against Japanese expansion. This coin commemorates Charles III's accession rather than any Churchill anniversary, pairing the two figures across the same face of a gold-plated iron planchet produced for the collectibles market, not circulation.
