Pallaruelo de Monegros is a small agricultural village in the Monegros desert region of Aragon, and this note was issued by its municipal council during the anarchist-influenced Republican administration of the Spanish Civil War. Hundreds of Spanish municipalities issued their own emergency fractional currency in 1936–37 after silver and copper coins disappeared from circulation almost overnight — hoarded, melted, or simply lost to the chaos of mobilization.
The Gari Monogrà reference places this among the rarer local Aragonese emissions, where surviving examples are frequently found with heavy handling, reflecting actual day-to-day use in a rural wartime economy.
