Castellvell del Camp is a small municipality in the Baix Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own paper fractional currency when coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely after 1936. The Republican government's inability to maintain a functioning coin supply pushed this responsibility onto local councils — ajuntaments — many of which had no printing infrastructure and relied on whatever was available locally.
Turró catalogues this as #776, placing it within the dense cluster of Camp de Tarragona municipal issues from the same period. These small-town emissions are frequently found with alignment irregularities and uneven ink coverage, a direct consequence of improvised production.
