Alcalá de Chivert is a small municipality in Castellón province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency when coin disappeared from circulation entirely — hoarded, melted, or simply not replaced by a central government fighting for survival. These municipally-issued notes, collectively known as "moneda local de guerra," were strictly for use within the issuing town's boundaries and had no legal standing beyond them.
The Gari reference number being unassigned suggests this piece was either unknown to or unconfirmed by cataloguers at time of publication — a genuine gap in the record rather than an obscure listing.
