| Reverse description | Central design presents the denomination within a multi-pointed geometric star frame (octagram) filled with intricate interlaced Arabesque and foliate ornament. The numeral 50 is prominently displayed in the center, flanked by the split legend ESSAI to the left and CEN- / TIMES to the right in Latin characters. Above and below the numeral, Arabic inscriptions in Maghrebi script render the denomination (قطعة خمسين سنتيما). The entire composition is set within a circular border of continuous interlaced geometric ornament, with the mintmark privy mark of the Poissy mint visible at the lower center of the field. |

France's Protectorate administration commissioned a series of essais for Morocco in the early 1920s as it worked to rationalize the coinage system under Sultan Moulay Yusuf. This nickel trial was part of that process — essais in nickel and other compositions were struck simultaneously to evaluate both the metal and the design before committing to a production specification. The 1924 date places it squarely in the period when the Rif War was escalating, though mint decisions in Paris operated on timelines largely indifferent to events in the Atlas.
Lec. 207 distinguishes this nickel striking from the bronze and aluminum trials of the same type.
