| Opis awersu | The note is framed by an ornate foliate border with a bee motif at each corner, enclosing the municipal blazons of Avignon at top centre, flanked by the arms of Carpentras to the left and Orange to the right, with the coat of arms of Apt also present. The denomination "0.50" is rendered in each of the four corner cartouches, with reserved fields for the manuscript signatures of the President and the Treasurer. The printer's imprint of Berger-Levrault appears at the foot of the design. |

French Chambers of Commerce were authorized to issue emergency small-denomination notes following the coin shortages of World War I, and many continued issuing well into the 1920s as the Banque de France struggled to maintain sufficient fractional currency in circulation. This third emission from Avignon came in 1922 — years after the armistice — reflecting just how persistent that shortage remained in provincial commerce. Berger-Levrault, the Nancy printer behind much of this regional emergency currency, produced enormous quantities across dozens of French chambers, which tends to keep prices modest for common dates and types within these series.
