| Reverse description | The reverse is richly engraved in brown, with a central octagonal vignette enclosing a view of the Bordeaux port exchange building, encircled by the Latin motto 'QUO NON HAC DUCE' and flanked by abundant sprays of wheat, hops, and vine leaves. A seated allegorical female figure occupies the lower centre, flanked on the left by a panoramic harbour scene with sailing vessels and wine barrels, and on the right by a view of a Bordeaux boulevard with a crowd; the arms of Bordeaux, borne on caduceus-flanked cartouches, appear at each lateral margin. The denomination '50 cents.' is repeated in bold type to either side of the central vignette. |
