Opmerkingen

Banco del Ruiz was one of several regional Colombian banks chartered under the 1880s free banking legislation that briefly allowed private institutions to issue their own currency. By 1905, that era was effectively over — the government's drive toward a centralized monetary system had been accelerating since the late 1890s, and most private bank concessions were being wound down or absorbed. This note was issued right at the edge of that cliff.

ABNC's involvement was common for Colombian private banks of this period, with plates often shared or adapted across multiple regional issuers. Worth checking whether the vignette plate here was reused from another Colombian series.
