Descrizione del dritto	The obverse is printed in blue-grey tones on cream paper, with a vignette at left center of a female portrait wearing a diadem, rendered in intaglio with fine line engraving. The bank title EL BANCO DE CARTAGENA is set in large letterpress across the upper field, with the denomination CINCUENTA CENTAVOS inscribed in the center. A promise-to-pay text in Spanish reads Pagará al portador, a la vista, en su oficina la suma de, with the place and date Cartagena, 1° de Enero de 1882 at lower left, flanked by two manuscript signatures below the titles El Director Gerente and El Cajero. The note number appears in the upper right corner, and a decorative guilloche border frames the entire composition.

Descrizione del rovescio	The reverse is printed entirely in blue-grey on plain paper, centered on an elaborate symmetrical guilloche composition of interlocking rosettes and lathe-work ornaments surrounding the large numeral 50 at center. A continuous decorative border of fine engine-turned patterns frames the entire face, with additional text running along the outer margins. Two cancellation punch holes are visible through the center of the design.
