Obverse description Facing bust of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) in civilian dress, wearing glasses and a suit and tie, set against a field depicting stylized temple spires in the background. The Thai legend รัชกาลที่ ๙ (Reign IX) appears to the upper left and ประเทศไทย (Thailand) to the upper right, with ๕๐ บาท (50 Baht) inscribed along the lower portion of the coin. The denomination พ.ศ.๒๕๔๓ (Buddhist Era 2543) is also incorporated into the inscription. The portrait is rendered in a realistic, medallic style with fine detail on the facial features.
