Beschrijving voorzijde The papal coat of arms of Pope Francis occupies the central field, featuring a shield charged with the Christogram 'IHS' within a radiant sun above a star and a nard flower, flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter surmounted by the papal tiara. A scroll beneath the shield bears the papal motto 'MISERANDO ATQUE ELIGENDO' in Latin. Small maltese cross ornaments appear at the left and right of the coat of arms in the field. The arc legend 'Pope Francis's Visit to Korea' appears in the upper portion of the coin between a beaded inner border, with '2014 · THE BANK OF KOREA · 50000 WON' inscribed along the lower arc.

Aanvullende informatie

Pope Francis visited South Korea in August 2014 for the sixth Asian Youth Day, his first papal visit to Asia since taking office — and the first papal visit to Korea since John Paul II in 1989. The Bank of Korea issued this commemorative specifically to mark the occasion, one of relatively few Korean commemoratives struck in .999 fine silver at this weight class rather than the more common .925 standard.
