The 50,000 Meticais denomination reflects the severe inflation Mozambique experienced through the late 1980s and early 1990s, a direct consequence of prolonged civil war between FRELIMO and RENAMO that had devastated the economy since 1977. By 1993 the metical had lost so much purchasing power that denominations at this scale became necessary for routine transactions. The series was printed by Thomas De La Rue in London, a standard arrangement for Mozambique during this period given the country's limited domestic printing infrastructure.
The "Printed: 30.04.1945" reference in the catalog data is almost certainly a data entry error and should not be read as a genuine production date.
