Reverse description The reverse displays a detailed engraved map of the city of Novosibirsk occupying the entire field, rendered with street grids, the Ob River, and surrounding topography. The city name НОВОСИБИРСК is inscribed in large Cyrillic characters along the upper arc. Superimposed at the lower left is the coloured Coat of Arms of Novosibirsk, depicting a shield divided with a green upper section bearing a blue diagonal band representing the Ob River, flanked by two black sable supporters and surmounted by a golden mural crown; a decorative base with interlaced multicoloured bands appears below the shield. The colour application highlights the heraldic elements in enamel tones of green, blue, black, gold, and red against the silver-toned map field.

Additional information

This issue belongs to a Lao commemorative series pairing the country's currency with major foreign cities — an arrangement that has less to do with Laos than with the wholesale market for themed silver rounds sold to collectors abroad. Novosibirsk, chosen here, is Russia's third-largest city and the administrative capital of Siberia, founded in 1893 as a crossing point for the Trans-Siberian Railway.

The Bank of the Lao PDR has issued dozens of such pieces under licensing arrangements common among small-nation mints seeking hard currency revenue from the global commemorative trade.
