At center, a left-facing bearded bust of Mesrop Mashtots, the 5th-century Armenian monk, theologian, and creator of the Armenian alphabet, rendered in high relief with fine engraving of hair and beard. The bust is set within a deeply recessed field bordered by an ornamental ring of alternating dashes and dots.
