The central field carries the issuer's name and note type in Gothic letterpress above the large ornate Fraktur value inscription 'Fünfzig Millionen Mark'. The lower portion contains a three-line redemption clause in small Gothic type, the issue date 'Darmstadt, den 1. September 1923', the circular Hessian lion arms vignette at lower left, two manuscript signatures of the Direktorium, and the serial number with series letter printed in green. |

Four circular medallions, each bearing the interlaced Gothic monogram 'HL' for Hessische Landesbank, are placed at the corners of the field, with the overall design relying entirely on the ornamental typographic composition against the plain paper ground without an enclosing frame. |
