Additional information

The Forbidden City — known in Chinese as Gùgōng, the "Former Palace" — was completed in 1420 under the Yongle Emperor, who had forcibly relocated the Ming capital from Nanjing to Beijing partly to consolidate his grip on power after seizing the throne from his nephew. Six hundred years of continuous imperial use followed, spanning fourteen Ming and ten Qing emperors, before the last Qing emperor Puyi was formally expelled from the complex in 1924. The 2020 commemorative marking that anniversary was issued as part of a broader series that included gold and larger silver denominations, with this 15g rectangular piece among the smaller collector issues in the set.
