These are issued in compliance with the provisions of the Ordinance of the Grand Council of State No. 18 of May 26th, year 17 of Meiji (1884) on convertible banknotes. Reverse description Light-blue underprint with a red seal. The central vignette presents Daikoku, the Shinto god of fortune, shown frontally and seated atop two bales of rice with three mice below; he holds a mallet in his right hand and a sack of riches over his left shoulder, the whole composition set within an ornate medallion surrounded by sakura cherry blossom sprays. A rectangular red treasury seal bearing a vertical clerical-script inscription flanked by dragon motifs, enclosed within a double-circle border, appears at lower left.
