Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Charles I of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel facing right, rendered in high relief with elaborately curled wig and lace cravat visible at the truncation. A decorative armored pauldron is depicted at the shoulder. The mint mark 'E' appears at the bottom of the bust truncation. The encircling Latin legend reads CAROLVS D·G· DVX BR· ET LVN·, separated by stops, running along the inner border of the reeded rim.

Reverse description The prancing horse of Brunswick, a bold heraldic stallion leaping to the left with flowing mane and tail, occupies the central field above a ground line with vegetation. The upper portion of the field bears the Latin motto NVNQVAM RETRORSVM and the date 1763 arranged in a semicircular legend. Below the ground line, the denomination 5 THALER· is inscribed, with the mintmaster's initials I·D·B appearing on a second line at the base of the field.
