Adolphus Frederick III ruled Mecklenburg-Strelitz for less than a decade, and gold issues from his reign are scarce by any measure — the duchy's mint output was modest even by the standards of the smaller German states. The Kunzel reference places this piece among a handful of documented gold types from Strelitz, a court whose numismatic footprint rarely matched its political ambitions.
