She raises her right arm aloft to hold a broad-brimmed hat of liberty atop a long staff or lance, while her left arm rests upon an ornate Baroque pedestal or altar decorated with scrollwork and bearing a coat of arms. The figure is robustly rendered in high relief with flowing Classical drapery in the Baroque tradition. The circular Latin legend HAC NITIMVR HANC TVEMVR (meaning 'On her we lean, her we protect') surrounds the device, with a dentilated border at the rim. |
