Reverse description The crowned arms of Monaco — a shield lozengy of argent and gules — occupy the central field, surmounted by a princely crown with elaborate foliate ornaments. The circular Latin legend, interrupted by the date, runs around the periphery within a beaded border, with the mint mark appearing at the base of the shield.

Additional information

Honoré II had secured the title "Prince of Monaco" from Spain in 1612, but by the 1640s he had switched allegiance to France — a realignment that reshaped Monegasque coinage entirely. This small silver issue belongs to the final years of his reign, struck as he consolidated a monetary identity tied increasingly to French standards rather than Spanish ones. He died in 1662, and production of this type ceased with him.
