Obverse description Right-facing armoured bust of James VI within a beaded inner circle, the king depicted in elaborate plate armour with intricate decorative detailing at the collar and shoulder. The effigy is rendered in a bold, slightly crude hammered style characteristic of late 16th-century Scottish coinage. The peripheral legend is divided by rosette stops and reads partially around the coin, with IACOBVS and 6 D G R visible to the right and SCOTORVM completing the royal title.
