Beschrijving keerzijde Two Grey Crowned Cranes (Balearica regulorum), the national bird of Uganda, are depicted within a raised inner circle: one bird stands erect in the right foreground displaying its characteristic golden crown plumes, while a second bird bows forward to the left. A scenic background features mountains, a lake with hippopotami, and birds in flight across the sky. Flanking the inner circle below are two small laurel sprigs, with the date 1969 centered between them. The curved legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

Uganda's early post-independence coinage was largely ceremonial in ambition. These silver issues were produced for collectors rather than circulation, commissioned as the country's new central bank worked to establish monetary credibility following independence from Britain in 1962. The Bank of Uganda was itself only formally established in 1966, making this 1969–1970 issue one of the institution's earliest numismatic outputs.

KM#9 is occasionally confused with the base-metal circulation issues of the same denomination from this period — a different animal entirely in every respect.
