| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of Malietoa Tanumafili II in left-facing profile, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and facial features, the engraver's initials 'HP' appearing at the truncation. The surrounding legend reads 'MALIETOA TANUMAFILI II' along the upper arc and 'SAMOA I SISIFO' along the lower arc, the latter being the Samoan name for Western Samoa. The design is the work of engraver Thomas Humphrey Paget. |
