The denomination numerals in kanji flank the hole vertically, with the value character 錢 below and 五 above the hole. A paulownia flower crest (kiri mon) is rendered in relief at the base of the design, framing the lower field. The overall layout is symmetrical, with the central hole as the compositional axis. |

| Description du revers | The legend 大日本 (Great Japan), designating the issuing authority, arcs across the upper field flanking the central hole. Prominent stylised sakura (cherry blossom) motifs occupy the left and right fields, rendered in high relief as decorative flanking elements. The reign-era date in kanji is inscribed along the lower arc, reading 昭和十五年 (Shōwa Year 15, corresponding to 1940 for the final year of issue, with earlier years appearing on respective issues). The reverse composition is formally balanced, with the hole at centre integrating all design elements. |
