Obverse lettering يجة سلطان انجز سيد علي ابن سيد عمر حماية دولة فرنسا الفخيمة
(Translation: Sultan of Ngazidja Said Ali ibn Said Omar (within beaded circle) Protectorate of the glorious French republic (outside beaded circle))
Reverse description The reverse displays a central epigraphic field enclosed within an ornate wreath of olive branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. At the top of the central field, the denomination '5 Centimes' is inscribed in Arabic numerals and abbreviation, flanked by a small five-pointed star. Below follow three lines of Arabic legend identifying the issuing state and invoking divine protection, with the Hijri year 1308 at the foot. The wreath and toothed outer border frame the design in a classical decorative style consistent with contemporary French colonial coinage practice.
