Reverse description The central field presents an elaborate floral and foliate composition centred on a stylised lotus blossom, flanked by symmetrical radiating palm fronds and decorative botanical elements, all enclosed within a beaded inner border. Superimposed upon this ornamental device, the denomination in Sinhala script ('රැපියල් පහයි') is inscribed in two lines, with the date '1957' below in Arabic numerals. To the left of the inner border, the legend 'FIVE RUPEES' is inscribed vertically in Latin characters; to the right, the Tamil denomination 'ஐந்து ரூபாய்' appears vertically. Along the upper outer margin, the Sinhala inscription 'ශ්‍රී ලංකා' appears, while the lower margin carries 'බුද්ධ ජයන්ති' in Sinhala script, all separated by ornamental star devices. The outer rim is defined by a continuous beaded border.
