| Obverse description | The obverse is printed predominantly in red-orange on a multicolour guilloche underprint, with the vignette of the Vatadage circular relic house at Polonnaruwa occupying the right portion of the note. The issuer's name appears in Sinhala, Tamil, and English at the top, flanked by the numeral 5 at each corner, while a lotus and floral ornament are rendered in the upper left area. Two signature lines with their titles in Sinhala appear at centre, accompanied by the date 1982-01-01, and the denomination is stated at the foot in all three scripts above the English legend 'Five Rupees'. |
