| 裏面の説明 | Central device depicts a stylized birds-eye view of a parliament chamber in session, with rows of seated legislators arranged in a semicircular hemicycle formation converging toward a presiding officer's rostrum surmounted by a flagpole bearing the national flag. The denomination '5' with the abbreviation 'Rs' appears in the upper right field. The legend 'PARLIAMENT SESSION 1991' arcs along the right and lower-right periphery in Latin script, while 'संसद भवन' (Parliament House) and 'नेपाल' (Nepal) appear in Devanagari on the left and lower portions respectively, with 'NEPAL' inscribed at the base. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

This coin was struck to mark the restoration of multiparty democracy in Nepal following the 1990 People's Movement — Jana Andolan — which forced King Birendra to lift the ban on political parties after nearly three decades of partyless Panchayat rule. The first parliamentary session under the new constitutional monarchy convened in 1991, and this issue commemorates that opening. Nepal had last operated a parliamentary system before King Mahendra dissolved it in 1960.
