| Beschrijving voorzijde | The Arms of Sri Lanka displayed centrally in the field, comprising a golden lion passant holding a sword in its right forepaw, enclosed within a circular sunburst border and an outer ring of stylized petals. Flanking the base of the shield are a sun disc to the right and a crescent moon to the left, with a Dhamma Chakra (Wheel of the Law) positioned at the apex. A traditional Sinhalese pūrnakumbha (pot of plenty) adorns the base, all set upon a decorative plinth. The design is rendered in high relief with fine detail throughout the field. |

The KM#148.2b designation marks a material change from earlier versions of this circulating type, which had previously been struck in nickel-brass and bimetallic configurations as Sri Lanka periodically adjusted coin specifications in response to metal cost pressures. Stainless steel became the practical solution for higher-denomination circulation coinage across South Asia during this period, adopted by India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in overlapping windows for precisely the same economic reasons.
