Obverse description Black and red letterpress on white paper. The header reads ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ БАНКЪ / СТАВРОПОЛЬСКОЕ ОТДЕЛЕНИЕ with the denomination Р. 5 to the right and the date 15 Мая 1918 г. below. A central text block carries the bearer payment order ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ in large Cyrillic characters, flanked by a vertical side panel bearing the bank name, with a decorative guilloche border running along the top and left margins; serial number and series notation appear at lower left, with manuscript signatures and a stamp at lower right.

Reverse description Plain paper reverse printed in black with a bold header ЧЕКЪ ГАРАНТИРОВАННЫЙ (ОБЕЗПЕЧЕННЫЙ). A lengthy Cyrillic text block explains that this guaranteed check is secured by the Stavropol Branch of the State Bank against funds in the depositor's current account, and that owing to the shortage of credit notes the check's validity is extended to 1 January 1919, during which period it circulates on a par with credit notes. Two manuscript signature lines for Управляющий (Manager) and Контролер (Controller) appear at the lower centre, with an official stamp alongside. A large printed numeral 5 watermark-style overprint occupies the centre of the text field.

Stavropol was a flashpoint during the Russian Civil War, passing between Bolshevik and White Army control multiple times between 1918 and 1920. Local branch issues like this one emerged precisely because the central supply of Romanov and Kerensky notes had broken down entirely — regional branches were authorized, sometimes informally, to print their own obligations to keep basic commerce functioning.

The S520 series from Stavropol is known to have been issued in at least three variants, with differences in overprint placement and paper stock that reflect the improvised nature of production. P#S520C specifically is the least frequently encountered of the three.
