Qatar's transition from the Qatar & Dubai Currency Board to the Qatar Central Bank was completed in the 1970s, but pattern coinage continued to be commissioned sporadically for decades afterward — often as presentations for dignitaries or for internal evaluation of proposed designs that never reached circulation. The KM#Pn7 designation confirms this piece never entered public issue.
Gold patterns from Gulf states in this period are genuinely rare in the numismatic record, with survival in single or low double digits not unusual.
