The "Independence" designation distinguishes this note from the standard 2010 series issue — the parallel release marked the 40th anniversary of Omani National Day, commemorating Sultan Qaboos bin Said's accession in 1970 and the formal rebranding of the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman. G+D's Leipzig facility has printed Omani currency across multiple series, a relationship built partly on the security infrastructure the printer brought to Gulf contracts from the 1970s onward.
Pick 44 is occasionally misattributed to the regular 2010 circulation run; the commemorative framing is the distinguishing factor, not any variation in physical production.
