Aanvullende informatie

Burma's post-independence coinage was administered by the Union Bank following the country's separation from British India in 1948, but the transition was neither clean nor immediate — the monetary infrastructure took years to stabilize after the upheaval of Japanese occupation and the subsequent independence struggle. This series ran through a period of considerable domestic instability, including the Karen insurgency and repeated crises that strained state institutions throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s.

General Ne Win's 1962 coup and the subsequent nationalization campaign effectively ended the Union Bank's civilian mandate, though coins of this type continued circulating well after the political structure that issued them had been dismantled.
