Additional information

Egypt issued this coin in 1986 to mark Warrior's Day, the annual commemoration of the October 1973 crossing of the Suez Canal — the opening assault of the Yom Kippur War in which Egyptian forces breached the Bar-Lev Line, widely considered impenetrable by Israeli military planners. The crossing remains the defining military achievement of Sadat's presidency and the central event in Egypt's modern military identity.

.720 silver was a deliberate step down from the fine silver used in earlier Egyptian commemoratives, reflecting persistent foreign currency pressures through the mid-1980s.
