Reverse description The central field features a three-line inscription VALUE / FIVE / POUNDS within a recessed oval, itself enclosed by an ornate beaded inner circle with a decorative scalloped border. The peripheral legend WEIGHT. 1 OZ: 8 DWT: 4 GRS: arcs across the upper half of the coin, and 22 CARATS. is inscribed along the lower arc, together conveying the precise weight and fineness of the piece. Small floral rosette devices appear at each side of the design. The whole is contained within a bold outer beaded border consistent with the obverse.
