The heading 'CLYDESDALE BANK PLC' appears across the upper portion in bold letterpress, with the promise text 'PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND AT THEIR OFFICE HERE' to the right, beneath which the denomination 'FIVE POUNDS STERLING' is printed in large letters. A large numeral '5' guilloche underprint occupies the right centre, with the serial number printed in red at lower right, the date and 'CHIEF EXECUTIVE, GLASGOW' inscription below the signature, and '£5' at both lower left and upper right corners.
