| 表面の説明 | The upper portion of the note carries a central vignette of sailing ships at sea, flanked by a harbour crane and shoreline, set beneath an arched guilloche banner bearing the bank title. Large intaglio numerals and the word FIVE dominate the centre, overlaid on a cloud-like guilloche underprint, with the promise-to-pay text and manuscript signature of the cashier below. The denomination FIVE also appears in letterpress on both vertical side margins, and BELFAST is printed in block capitals along the lower border. |

| 裏面の説明 | The reverse is printed entirely in dark blue on plain paper and centres on a large ornate guilloche rosette enclosing the interlaced NBL cypher monogram of the Northern Bank Limited, surrounded by a dotted inner ring and a scalloped outer border of geometric lathe-work. Two smaller matching guilloche numerals '5' flank the central rosette at left and right, and the founding year 1824 appears within the lower arc of the inner ring alongside the legend ESTABLISHED. |

Northern Bank Limited was established in Belfast in 1824 and operated as a private commercial bank until its absorption into the Midland Bank group in 1965. The 1929 issue predates that acquisition by several decades and was circulating during a period when Northern Ireland's note-issuing commercial banks still operated with considerable independence from London oversight.
Pick 179 is among the scarcer Northern Bank issues — the bank's surviving paper from this period is thinly represented in collections, partly because wartime disruptions affected record-keeping and note redemption programs across Ulster's banking sector.
