| Obverse description | The note is printed in green and mauve tones with an intricate guilloche border framing the entire face. A large blank oval vignette occupies the upper left, intended for the cashier's stamp, while the bank's heraldic arms appear at the lower centre. The denomination FIVE POUNDS is rendered in bold letterpress, with the promise-to-pay text, issuing date of Edinburgh 16th September 1959, and the General Manager's manuscript signature positioned in the central field. |
