| Beschrijving keerzijde | The central field depicts a dramatic aerial combat scene from the First World War, featuring a large biplane in the foreground rendered in fine detail, with a second triplane engaged in combat at the right and a further aircraft visible in the upper centre, all set against a stylised sky punctuated by billowing clouds. The upper legend FIRST WORLD WAR arcs across the top of the field, with the dates 1914-1918 and the word CENTENARY inscribed below in the upper centre. The denomination FIVE POUNDS is inscribed in the lower field, and the design is contained within a beaded inner border. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Gibraltar's 2014 commemorative program marking the WWI centenary split the conflict into thematic domains — land, sea, and air — issuing each as a separate piece. The air issue acknowledges Britain's Royal Flying Corps, which entered the war in August 1914 with fewer than 200 aircraft and pilots who were, by any measure, improvising doctrine as they went. Fixed armament on aircraft didn't exist at the outbreak; observers carried rifles and revolvers.
KM#1516 is part of a matched set, and collectors assembling the complete series often find the air piece the last to surface.
